Obituary for Vernelle Wright (Brown)

Vernelle E. Wright, 92, of Screven, Ga. passed away on Tuesday, October 18, 2022 at her residence. She was born on November 17, 1929 in Screven, Ga. to the late, James Anderson Brown and Mary Magdeline Washington-Brown. Vernelle was the last surviving child of (12) children born to her parents. She was educated in the Wayne County Training School. Vernelle was a faithful member of St. James Holiness Church in Screven, Ga. where she served as an usher, a Sunday School Teacher and in the Kitchen Ministry. Her work history includes that of a cook at Hope’s Truck Stop and at the Federal Prison, as a seamstress at Bonnie Manufacturer and she attended Savannah State College where she received her Cosmetology License and worked as a beautician for many years. Vernelle was a giving and loving person, she had her very own neighborhood ministry. She would help anyone in need. If she had it, you could have it for the asking. There was always enough love and food to go around. Vernelle loved serving her God, shopping, cooking and spending time with her family.

She was preceded in death by both parents, James and Mary Brown; her husband, Calvin Willis Wright, Sr.; her children, Benjamin Willis Wright, Lillian Elaine Hernandez, Calvin Willis Wright, Jr., Marilyn Celeste Trice and Terrell Dwayne Wright; her siblings, Willie Roscoe, Margaret Alene, Alvenia Marjorie, Florence Henriette, Estella LaVata, Randolph, Adolph, Rachel Rowena, Isaac, Mozelle Joan and Marcia Evangeline.

Those left to cherish her memories: her loving children, Cynthia Lynelle Platt, Screven, Ga., Brenda Althea Wright, Anchorage, Alaska, Arnold Washington Wright (Paula), Screven, Ga., Coy Vincent Wright ( Amy), Jesup, Ga. and Sonya Wright, Screven, Ga.; her grandchildren, Vonda Kay McFadden ( John), Greta Lynn Massey, Christopher Hernandez (Jordan), Shanea Breshears, Tracy Wright, Randy Roberts, Monica Trice Lewis (Jeff), Leon Trice ( Ashton), Turoska Jernigan, Terrell Wright, Jr., Alan Wright (Cheryl), Angela Singleton (Richard), Bobby Hopkins (Brenda), Ronald Reddish ( Nova), Rodney Reddish, Kashema Lockridge (Maceo), Vyninka Reddish, Lontesha Wright and Coshayona Everette (Demetrius), Quinton and Gabriel Wright; god-children, Sedric and Fredric Williams; as well as a host of great grands, great great grands, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends that she held dear to her heart.

There will NOT be a wake/visitation. Remains will lie in state one hour prior to services on Saturday.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, October 29, 2022 @ 11:00 a.m at St. James Holiness Church, 535 White Star Road, Screven, Ga. 31560

Interment in Screven Cemetery.
