Obituary for William "Duke" Cobbs

Pastor William Sherman Cobbs (a.k.a Duke) was born in Jesup, GA on December 25, 1955 to the late Robert F. Cobbs and Pearlie L. Cobb (Mayes). He confessed Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior, was baptized and received the Holy Ghost at a young age. He graduated from Wayne County High School B in the Class of 1975. He was an ordained Minister at St. James Holiness Church, (Screven, GA) under the leadership of Mother Johnathan Green. Sherman was the husband to the late, Shirley Ann Cobbs (Boone) and they relocated to Las Vegas in 1993. He was ordained as a Pastor at Prayer Center Revival (Las Vegas, NV) under the leadership of Elder Prince Davis.

Sherman transitioned to heaven from earth on Thursday, May 19, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Pearlie Cobbs, wife, Shirley Cobbs, brothers, Issac Cobbs, Bishops Fritz Cobb and sister, Cassandra Cobbs.

He leaves precious memories: his loving children, Brittany Cobbs of Las Vegas, NV, Garrett Cobb (Stephanie) of New Mexico, William Sharmar (Shania) of Jesup, GA.; his grandchildren, Greyson, Ivy and Avery; a legacy of love and a charge to preach the Gospel of Jesus Christ to his siblings, Vera Wallace, Pearlie Digsby, Nona Cobbs, Annette Cobbs, Allison (Leonard) Simmons and David Cobb; his brothers and sisters in-laws, Freddie (Shirley) Taylor, Pearl (Alvin) Williams, Jack Taylor, Savannah, Ga., Pastor Bertha Cobbs, Jesup, Ga., Deloise Guyton, Jacksonville, Fl., DeUnna Taylor, Jesup, Ga., Mary Dickens, Jesup, Ga.; Special friends, Bishop Joseph Wilkins, Maurice Cooper, Everlyn Bradley, and Cynthia Hicks, Berry Thomas and Richard Ruiz; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Sherman's wisdom and his joyous display of praise, prayer and preaching will be missed on this side, we are confident that he is resting in the Lord.

A visitation will be held on Friday, June 3, 2022 at Royal Funeral Home Chapel, 247 W. Pine Street, Jesup, Ga. 31545 from 5-7 pm.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 4, 2022 @ 2:00 pm at Greater St. James Holiness Church in Screven, Ga.
Interment in the Screven Cemetery.
