Obituary for Willie "Slim" Thompson

Deacon Willie Frank Thompson was born on September 25, 1954. Willie Frank, “Slim” was born in Millen, Georgia and spent most of his early childhood there before moving to Ludowici, GA. Willie Frank attended Long County High School and graduated with the Class of 1972.

At an early age Willie Frank gave his life to Christ at St. James Missionary Baptist Church, Ludowici, Georgia. In 1992, Willie Frank was ordained a deacon and served faithfully until his health failed.

He loved to be outdoors and would work in the yard for hours on a daily basis. Willie Frank fell in love with horses at an early age and rode as often as possible. He was blessed to own several horses throughout his lifetime. He proudly rode Moonshine, Shallow, and Red in parades and on trail rides. He also attended rodeos where he often traveled as far as Okmulgee, Oklahoma to the Roy LeBlanc Invitational Rodeo.

Willie Frank was employed as a contractor truck driver for the U.S. Postal Service for over 30 years where he transported U.S. Mail throughout Georgia and South Carolina. Willie also had a lasting relationship with the Ludowici U.S. Postal Service Team, where he fostered many friendships over the years. Before retiring, he became an owner operator and contractor for the U.S. Postal Service (Thompson’s Trucking); in his final employment he enjoyed working part-time for the Ludowici Head Start Program. During this tenure, Willie Frank built lifetime friendships with all of his coworkers.

Willie Frank passed away on August 13, 2023 at Altamaha Healthcare Center under the care of Your Family Hospice. He is preceded in death by parents, Henry Williams and Ella Mae Harris, a sister, Lee Dora Thompson and three brothers, Clarence Thompson, Albert Thompson, and Gilbert Thompson.

Willie Frank’s legacy will forever live through his loving wife of 39 years, Beverly A. Thompson of Ludowici, GA; son, Edwin Russell Thompson (Marissa) of Hinesville, GA; three loving granddaughters, Tizah, Dimon, and Miah; all of Hinesville, GA; three sisters, Alice Mae Hobson (Kenneth) and Bernice Johnson both of Augusta, GA and Evlyn Herbert of Atlanta, GA; three brothers, Marvin Thompson of Ludowici, GA, Johnny Thompson (Cheryl), of Brunswick, GA. and Wayne Thompson (Joanne) of Perry, GA; one aunt, Janice Thompson-Reddick of Statesboro, Ga. and a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins. Willie always cherished his hometown family in Millen, GA.

Public Viewing will be held on Friday, August 25, 2023 from 5–7p.m. at Royal Funeral Home, 247 West Pine Street,
Jesup, GA 31545.

Funeral Services will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023 @ 11 a.m. at St. John’s Holiness Church, 386 West Poplar St., Jesup, GA 31545.
