Obituary

Charles Lavon Hendrix, was born on July 16, 1962, in Bulloch County, GA, to the late, Louise Hendrix and Derrix Kirkland, Sr. in Statesboro, Ga. (Bulloch Co.). He was educated in the public school system of Wayne County, Ga. (Jesup, Ga.), but later moved to Atlanta, to be with his older siblings. Charles spent most of his life working in the construction industry. While in Atlanta, he met his common-law wife, Ella Best, known by family and friends as “Cookie.” Charles and Cookie were inseparable for what would be his remaining days on this side until his demise. Although, he did not have any biological children of his own, he was a devoted step-father to Cookie’s three children, Timothy, Lashanda, and Jeffrey, and a loving grandfather.

Some of his favorite pass times included listening to music, dancing and telling jokes. He was always “the life of the party.” Aside from entertainment, Charles was also known for the magnitude of his heart. He was well-known in his community and loved by all that knew him.

Charles passed away on September 12, 2020. He was preceded in death by his parents, Louise and Derrix; his brothers, Lawrence; Robert and Steve; and his sisters, Betty and Ruthie Mae.

He leaves to cherish his memories: his common-law wife, Ella "Cookie" Best; his children, Lashanda, Timothy, and Jeffrey; his grandchildren, Jaquis, Jaquavis, Braley, Timiya, Jayden, and Briana; 8 siblings, Lucille (Larry), Vernell (Cameron), Eugene (Tracy), Henry, Will (Willie Mae), Mary (Walter), Derrix (Yvonne) and Helen (Jimmie); and a god sister, Geraldine (John) White. He will be missed dearly by his family and friends.

A viewing will be held on Friday, September 18, 2020 at Royal Funeral Home Chapel, 247 W. Pine St., Jesup, Ga. from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m.

Graveside services will be held at First Calvary Baptist Church Cemetery, Hwy 84, Hinesville, Ga. @ 2:00 p.m.

*We kindly ask that everyone in attendance to the viewing and graveside services, please wear your mask and adhere to the 6 ft. social distancing guidelines that have been set by the local health dept. and the CDC to protect against the spread of the COVID 19 virus.
